NEW ORLEANS — The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit today challenging newly drawn state House and Senate district maps as unlawfully minimizing the voting strength of Black Louisianans.
NEW ORLEANS – ACLU of Louisiana, ACLU National Voting Rights Project, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and 13 other civil rights organizations submitted a letter urging the Louisiana Legislature to draw State House and Senate maps that provide significant increases in majority-Black opportunity districts.
NEW ORLEANS – In 2021, ACLU of Louisiana’s Justice Lab campaign collected more than 400 complaints of police misconduct, filed upwards of 30 cases against law enforcement officers, and documented countless stories from survivors and family members impacted by police violence throughout the state.
NEW ORLEANS – In a letter addressed to U. S. Attorney Duane E. Evans and the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the ACLU of Louisiana called for a pattern or practice investigation into misconduct by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
NEW ORLEANS – The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Louisiana have launched a paid media campaign, including video ads and mailers, to educate and mobilize voters on the stakes of the November 13th election for Orleans Parish Sheriff.
NEW ORLEANS – As Louisiana approaches the once-in-a-decade process of redistricting, the ACLU of Louisiana has launched a statewide campaign demanding fair maps from legislators and empowering community members to join the fight for equal representation.
