NEW ORLEANS -- ACLU of Louisiana executive director Alanah Odoms Hebert issued the following statement regarding passage of Constitutional Amendment 2, restoring the right to unanimous juries in felony cases.
“This historic victory is a testament to the people of Louisiana, who raised their collective voices and abolished an unjust law that subverted one of the most basic principles of our justice system. These efforts have paved the way for a more perfect union, and for a Louisiana Constitution that protects all of its citizens. We the people have proven that our dark history does not define us. Today we are taking one more step towards a shared future that is filled with the light and hope that justice brings.”
