NEW ORLEANS— After a brief telephone conference with counsel for the parties, U.S. District Judge James Brady granted Sarah Childs’ request for a temporary restraining order prohibiting the City of Denham Springs from interfering with her display of lights on the roof of her house.  “This is a victory for the First Amendment and for the rule of law,” said Marjorie R. Esman, ACLU of Louisiana Executive Director.  “We are gratified that Ms. Childs can express herself as the law permits without further risk of interference by the police.”

A hearing on Childs’ request for a preliminary injunction will be held on January 7.
