The ACLU of Louisiana strongly condemns the Public Service Commissions (PSC) decision to schedule a vote on whether Commissioner Davante Lewis can continue in his duly elected leadership role. This move prompted by Mr. Lewis’ criticism of Governor Landry on social media sets a dangerous precedent that undermines democratic principles and threatens the constitutional right to free expression.

Alanah Odoms, Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana, issues the following statement:

"This retaliatory action against a Black elected official is deeply troubling. Elected leaders should be able to express their views without fear of political retribution. Suppressing dissent in this way is not only undemocratic but also sets a chilling precedent for free speech in Louisiana.

The ACLU Louisiana calls on the Public Service Commission to reject this undemocratic vote."
