NEW ORLEANS – The ACLU of Louisiana today announced the hiring of Michelle Moore as its new Communications Director, bolstering the organization’s capacity to engage with communities across the state. Moore joins a growing and diverse staff, led by executive director Alanah Odoms, who took the helm in 2018 as the first Black woman to lead the ACLU of Louisiana in its 64-year history.
“Michelle brings incredible experience in mission-driven communications and leadership – but far more important than that, she brings heart,” said Odoms. “We’re thrilled to have her on the team as we continue to intensify our work to advance racial justice and build a more just and equitable Louisiana.”
The ACLU of Louisiana now has more than 8,600 card-carrying members and more than 67,000 total supporters throughout the state.
“As a New Orleans native, I am deeply honored to be joining this organization at such a critical time for our state and nation,” said Moore. “I look forward to working with our incredible staff, supporters, and partners to expose injustice, center the voices of impacted communities, and build support for policies that will advance fairness and justice for all.”
As Communications Director for the ACLU of Louisiana, Michelle is charged with being an advocate for positive change in the civil rights and civil liberties landscape, as well as growing the organization’s political power to energize the fight for civil liberties and protect hard-won victories. Most recently serving as Senior Director of External Communications for The National WWII Museum, Michelle developed and executed strategic communications plans that incorporated publications, earned media, and digital content to maximize the Museum’s visibility, visitation, and financial support. In January 2020, she received the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International Public Relations “Best of Show” award for increasing the Museum’s publicity by securing more than 1.3 billion global media impressions for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
Prior to joining the Museum, Michelle worked as a publicist for various organizations, including Atlantic Records in New York City and public relations agency Deveney Communications in New Orleans. She also served as Live Events Manager for the Essence Music Festival for three years.
Michelle earned a BA from Loyola University New Orleans where she majored in communications. Her full bio and photo are online here: https://www.laaclu.org/en/biographies/michelle-moore
